Designing Safe, Inclusive and Accessible Health Precincts: A Total Design Approach
Healthcare precincts operate around the clock, serving diverse communities whose needs and experiences vary widely across day and night. This session explores how intentional design can transform these environments into safer, more inclusive, and seamlessly connected 24/7 community hubs.
Alice and Rebecca will draw on Arup’s “Total Design” ethos—an approach that integrates security, urban design, accessibility, and user experience—to demonstrate how holistic, people-centred thinking can reshape the way health precincts function and feel.
Alice brings deep expertise in designing safe, inclusive public spaces, applying security design principles to mitigate risk and enhance comfort for all users, especially women and other vulnerable groups. Her recent work at the Westmead Health and Innovation Precinct combined lighting, security, and urban design strategies to create a welcoming 24/7 environment.
