Our
Story
In the beginning
Formed in Victoria in 1949, the Hospital Engineers Institute was created 'as Hospitals become more mechanized, it is obvious that discussions between Engineers - where experience can be passed on - methods and equipment freely discussed, will be a great assistance to Hospitals'.

The first conference was held in Sydney, July 1953 to discuss 'standardization of Hospital Equipment' and the first Hospital Magazine was printed 1951.
We believe that a safe and healthy healthcare environment is the foundation of patient care, and a well-designed and maintained healthcare facility is essential for the delivery of quality clinical services.
Our Mission
Our mission is to enable the delivery of worldclass healthcare by developing the people that support healthcare facility management and engineering.
By this we aim to improve patient care outcomes and the safety and sustainability of healthcare facilities.
Our Vision
Our vision is to be recognized as the leading voice in healthcare engineering and facility management in Australia. We achieve this through collaboration, education, and connection, and utilise connections with international partners through membership of IFHE.
