WA PD - Reducing Whole-of-Life Carbon in Healthcare: From Design to Operation

Healthcare is one of Australia’s heaviest polluters, contributing 7% of our national carbon emissions. At the same time, Australia's healthcare sector is undergoing significant transformation and experiencing substantial growth. While this growth presents opportunities, it also poses challenges in terms of meeting the increasing demand for services, ensuring equitable access to care, improving efficiencies through digitisation and ultimately delivering better patient outcomes. But how can we do this while also ensuring the healthcare industry is supporting a net zero future, with sustainability, decarbonisation and health and wellbeing at the forefront for design and operations of new and existing healthcare infrastructure.

This presentation will set the context, and dive into the challenge and opportunities for decarbonisation in the healthcare industry, providing insights on key design and operational decisions, innovations, and their application to deliver healthcare infrastructure that considers embodied and operational carbon for new and existing healthcare assets.
