The Standards Australia ME-080 committee (filters/air cleaning) is looking to adopt the following ISO UV standards to give guidance to hospital engineers (amongst others) using UV for surface and air infection control:
· ISO 15858:2016, UV-C Devices - Safety information - Permissible human exposure
· ISO 15727:2020, UV-C devices - Measurement of the output of a UV-C lamp
· ISO 15714:2019, Method of evaluating the UV dose to airborne microorganisms transiting in-duct ultraviolet germicidal irradiation devices
These are basic standards trying to seek consistency on safety, performance and application of UVC for air disinfection.
Members will be informed of the opportunity to comment on the draft standard at a later date. IHEA will continue to monitor the proposed changes and will advise members of the outcome, and providing a membership briefing when the process has concluded.
