Drones, Data & Disruption: Intelligent Asset Management in Action

Updated: Aug 18, 2025

Last week, over 190 delegates came together for the IHEA QLD Mid-Year Conference to explore the critical theme: "Intelligent Asset Management: Innovation, Prioritisation, Optimisation."

As healthcare infrastructure faces mounting pressures—from ageing assets and rising patient demand to digital disruption and regulatory change—this conference delivered timely insights and practical strategies to help healthcare engineers stay ahead.

Over the course of the day, 14 expert speakers shared knowledge, case studies, and emerging trends that are reshaping the way we plan, maintain, and invest in healthcare assets.

Conference Highlights

The conference featured a dynamic program of thought leaders and industry experts, including:

  • Keynote Speaker: Miller Guirguis (Health Infrastructure Queensland, Queensland Health), who provided an insightful overview of the Queensland Government’s Hospital Infrastructure Rescue Plan—a bold strategy to address ageing infrastructure and deliver safer, more resilient healthcare facilities across the state.

  • Professor Maureen Hassell, Director of the Minerals Industry Safety and Health Centre at the Sustainable Minerals Institute, The University of Queensland, who explored how organisations can leverage AI to manage asset integrity and reliability risks—offering fascinating cross-sector lessons for healthcare.

  • Danny Tincknell, Engineering Services Manager at West Moreton Health, shared his personal and professional learnings from India, with practical takeaways on adaptability, innovation, and collaboration across vastly different healthcare systems.

  • Live Drone Cleaning Demonstration.

These sessions sparked rich discussions and inspired delegates to think differently about how healthcare engineering can evolve to meet tomorrow’s challenges.

A Huge Thank You to Our Volunteers

A sincere thank you goes out to the incredible QLD team of volunteers, who took the lead on planning and delivering the entire event. From logistics to program development, communications to delegate support—this event was 100% volunteer-run, and a brilliant example of what our community can achieve together.

Another thank you also to our sponsors who shared their knowledge and expertise on the day. Special mention to our major sponsors Schneider, Tarkett and Polar Enviro.

See You at the 2026 National Conference – Gold Coast

With the QLD team having successfully delivered such a high-calibre event, we’re now turning our eyes to the 2026 IHEA National Conference on the Gold Coast.

This will be our biggest event yet—bringing together healthcare engineers, industry partners, and innovators from across Australia to share ideas, strategies, and solutions for the future of healthcare infrastructure.

We’re building on the momentum of this year’s success and look forward to welcoming even more delegates, speakers, and exhibitors to what promises to be an unmissable conference in a world-class location.

Thank you to all who attended, supported, and contributed. We look forward to continuing these important conversations—online, at future events, and on the ground in hospitals and health networks around the country.
