IHEA WA recently held their State Conference, with the theme centering on ‘Replace, Redesign, Renew.
The events began with an exclusive behind the scenes tour of the Optus Stadium Perth, which proved informative, educational and despite the weather, full of spectacular views and photo opportunities.
The tour concluded with a social gathering at next door’s Camfield Bar, with a chance to discuss the current Healthcare landscape with old and new friends alike.
The following day’s conference was excellent, and jam packed with great presentations and speakers, seventeen local and interstate experts that spoke on topics related to the theme of the day 'Replace Redesign Renew'.
Highlights of the day included Matthew Wood from SSG Insight, who discussed asset management data quality and the future use of AI. Matthew shared how AI question sets can be used to predict breakdowns, equipment failure and asset reliability. He also highlighted the importance of creating predictability from uncertainty with the use of reliable collected data.
Dr Surani McCaw from Southland Filtration spoke about Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems designs and their use in Renal and CSSD departments, and she expanded on how the 2 pass RO systems were compared to the use of deionization resin systems. She then explained how traditional RO systems compared to the new advanced systems, and how they can produce a recovery rate of 85-90%.
Zachary Browne, Rajeshwaralu Kumaresan and Kane Bailey from Stantec looked into the future speaking about AI innovations future energy saving products and waste management. They discussed patronage trends to set building parameter, Robotic Cleaning, AI driven informative wayfinding, adiation of heat sinks located on roof tops during the day, turning commercial kitchen waste into biofuels and also how 3D smart models can be used for preventative maintenance use.
Daragh Maher from Write Solutions discussed the European trends in waste management and Australia’s movement away from single use plastics. He explained how waste is now a returnable cost, the Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO) strategy and expanded on the de-packaging of prepacked food waste and other equipment developments.
The penultimate speaker was Octo Moniz from Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) who shared his experiences adapting RPH emergency services and educating staff with regards to emergency response and security issues.
The award for presentation of the day went to Daragh Maher from Write Solutions.
